Qualified veterans receive preference points that are factored in during the hiring process. Honorably discharged veterans may be awarded 5 or 10 points based on qualifying circumstances.
Most veterans are eligible to use the GI Bill while attending the Academy and during field training. A state Veteran’s Affair coordinator provides a presentation as part of the Academy to answer specific questions and help guide you through the process.
The Lakewood Police Department supports continued commitment to the military reserves by awarding fulltime employees with 15 paid days off per year for military leave. The City of Lakewood offers additional benefits to Agents called to active military duty.
